Whether you are going keto, vegan, or something else, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few ways you can get your coffee fix for the day and still stay healthy and meet your dieting goals whether it’s to lose weight or just feel good!
For Keto: Bulletproof Coffee
Bulletproof coffee is to help provide satiety and help curb your cravings while also boosting energy and possibly mental clarity (due to the ketones and caffeine).
Take your cup of freshly brewed coffee and stick in a blender with 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Blend until smooth and frothy and drink right away.
You can add unsweetened cocoa powder to make a bulletproof mocha, or cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to give it a little extra boost in flavor. You can also use decaf if you’re trying to cut back on the caffeine.
For Vegans: Café Noir or New Orleans Coffee
If you like a chocolate-caramel taste, then this is the perfect vegan coffee for you. The coffee-like substance of chicory is made from the dried, roasted roots of a bitter herb.
To make your Café Noir at home, simply add 2 tablespoons of chicory to your filter before adding your ground coffee. If you have a bitter tasting coffee, you can add ¼ teaspoon of salt to your filter as well when brewing.
If you’d like a touch of creaminess, add your favorite non-dairy creamer or milk. In traditional New Orleans style, you should scald your milk before adding it to your coffee.
For Mediterranean Dieters: Keeping with Tradition
Mediterranean countries do like their coffee, but they drink theirs in small cups, and their coffee drinks are usually more simplified than the oversized latte with half milk and whipped cream. In some parts of the Mediterranean, coffee is a major part of life; it’s rarely missed and a part of breakfast or after a meal.
Keep your cup of coffee small, simple, and limited to 3 cups a day. Excessive caffeine is the big baddie on this one. Enjoy your cup of Joe; savor it. It’s all about balance.
For DASH (Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension)
The best option for reducing calorie intake when it comes to coffee is to drink either an Americano (espresso and water) or a plain 8 oz. cup of brewed black coffee.
To spruce up the taste, add some spice to the filter before brewing; cinnamon is a good one and it’s good for you. You can add vanilla or almond extract to the brewed coffee to give it some flavor, and for a lighter, fluffier texture, add two tablespoons of coconut oil to boost your energy and metabolism.
For Weight Watchers
Since the Weight Watchers plan works on the points system, they have points for coffee and coffee recipes too. This means you can indulge your favorites while still maintaining balance (that is, if you’re still following the program).
